We’ve all heard it before.

“Do it scared.”

It’s almost a mantra in the entrepreneurial world, something we tell ourselves to push through the tough moments. 

Heck, I’ve said it so many times I’ve lost count. 

But you know what? 

The more I think about it, the more I realize that telling ourselves to “do it scared” keeps us right there…in a state of fear.

Think about it. 

When you hear “scared,” what comes to mind? 

A frightened kitten hiding in the corner? 

A shiver running down your spine? 

It’s almost like we’re giving ourselves permission to be stuck in those negative emotions, instead of breaking free from them.

Sure, they’re going to be moments when you feel like your stomach is doing backflips, when fear grips you tight. 

But what if we flipped the script? 

What if, instead of doing it scared, we decided to be BRAVE?

Just saying it—“I’m going to be brave”—makes me stand a little taller. 

It’s like flipping a switch from “I’m about to survive this” to “I’m about to OWN this.” 

When you tell yourself to be brave, suddenly, you’re the hero in your own story. 

You’re stepping into something unknown, sure, but you’re doing it with purpose, with excitement, with a sense of, “HECK YEAH, let’s do this!”

I don't want you to just survive…I want you to thrive. 

The next time you’re feeling that knot in your stomach, or that nervousness creeping in before hitting post, or that anxiety before a big Zoom call…try this. 

Look yourself in the mirror and say, “I am brave.” 

Let that empowering feeling wash over you.

And repeat it as much as you need. 

Remember how amazing you are.
